Embracing Free Spirit

Our Mission

BenFeng Music Productions understands that music exists to challenge, to transform, and to bring multi-dimensionality to our life experience. We look beyond tradition, expand through innovation, and explore the intersection of arts and humanity.

About Us

BenFeng, “Running with Free Spirit” in Chinese, is at the very core of our way in making music and exploring the world. Each of the BenFeng Music Productions goes beyond the traditional, delving into the essence of music and pushing the boundaries of classical music presentation. Our innovative and immersive style seeks to transcend cultural and artistic divides, uniting audiences through powerful and deeply personal experiences.

Fueled by a spirit of playful curiosity, BenFeng Music Productions was founded in 2013 in Taiwan by violinist MinTze Wu. However, the story of BenFeng actually began on a wintery January morning in 2009. That's when MinTze shared the idea of Sounds of Lyons with Mystie Brackett (then co-chair of the Lyons Community Foundation) over a cup of tea at the beloved Stone Cup. The vision was to bring extraordinary, multicultural, fresh, and engaging musical experiences to the community. After eight years of making music by the St. Vrain River, in the Wildflower Pavilion, and at the Lyons Community Church, Sounds of Lyons crossed the ocean to Taiwan, where it transformed into BenFeng Music Productions, took root, and blossomed.

Alongside a global community of kindred-spirit artists, BenFeng embarks on artistic explorations in unconventional spaces - from ancient sites to temples, from pubs to parks, from under the banyan trees to the National Concert Hall, Opera House, and Playhouse in Taiwan. Whether a large-scale production or an intimate chamber setting, BenFeng’s commitment to artistic excellence remains constant.

Notable past productions abroad include:

  • Death of the Pugilist (2008, 2009, 2020, 2023)

  • The Turn of The Screw (2022)

What truly sets BenFeng apart is the unique blend of creativity and stepping wildly out of the comfort zone. You would find BenFeng musicians constantly expanding their artistic horizons, challenging the status quo of classical music, and embracing the journey into uncharted waters. You would find BenFeng Productions conveying the stories and emotions in a visceral and liberated fashion, with musicians internalizing and interpreting music with new found freedom.

Our collective background is that of eastern and western philosophy, traditional and cutting-edge aesthetics, and an in-depth understanding of the role of art in the evolution of humanity.
