Kreutzer
The BenFeng Music Production Kreutzer was developed based on Tolstoy's novella, interweaving three masterpieces under the same title: Beethoven's sonata, Tolstoy's novella, and Janáček's string quartet. Created over a period of more than 120 years, these three masterworks explore the complex human fascinations of love, lust, revenge, and redemption. Set on a train with a journey that has neither beginning nor end, performers and audiences alike are passengers experiencing and witnessing the intricate and messy landscape of the inner world. Alongside the music of Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Ljova, and John Tavener, the production delivers a compelling and dramatic version of Tolstoy's psychological thriller.
Kreutzer was conceived and premiered in 2019 at the BenFeng E Warehouse in Tainan, Taiwan. A 30-year-old former automobile part assembly line transformed into a black-box theater, the BenFeng E Warehouse was awarded the Outstanding Arts & Business Award by the Taiwan Cultural Ministry in 2020.
